Briana Pearson, of Mount Bethel, Pa., served as a volunteer for the free, week-long "Project Exploration" Science Institute camp this summer at Alvernia University. Pearson is a Sophomore Biology major at Alvernia University.

Led by Alvernia faculty and a team of Carpenter Technology scientists, volunteers like Pearson organized 150 7th - 9th grade students though science activities and field trips to Carpenter's R&D facilities, Angelica Creek Park and the Franklin Institute.

Students from 30 different middle schools learned about topics like chemistry, engineering, and physics -- through experiments that explored liquid nitrogen, chemical flames, slope mechanics, and trajectory launch engineering.
