Gabriella Valenti Presenting at Sigma Tau Delta Conference

2015 Mar 19

Nearly a dozen Alvernia students, including Communication major Gabriella Valenti of Pottsville, PA, are presenting papers, panels, and creative work at the Sigma Tau Delta conference in Albuquerque, N.M. this March. The International English Honor Society Sigma Tau Delta has more than 870 active chapters across the globe.

Alvernia students Brooke Deamer, Scott Dressler, Jessica Newcomer, Alexander Roche, and Gabriella Valenti will present a roundtable titled "Disneyfication of Ancient Folklore,” moderated by Dr. Carrie Fitzpatrick, associate professor of communication and English. Ashley Beyer will also participate on this roundtable as a junior member of Sigma Tau Delta.

Roundtable Abstract: Once upon a time, the Disney Franchise began adapting fairytales for the big screen. For 91 years, Disney has owned enchantment and transformed fairytales into the contemporary films that we know and love. Roundtable members will engage the audience in discussion of the implications of the Disneyfication of ancient folklore.

The Alvernia group is led by faculty members and society advisors Dr. Carrie Fitzpatrick and Chair Beth DeMeo.
