Kathryn Shaner Helping Poor Through Alternative Break Program

Kathryn Shaner, of Reading, Pa., is spending winter break working to help others in Cincinnati through an Alvernia University 'Alternative Break' program. Shaner, is a sophomore Nursing major at the University.

Students volunteering in Camden will be working with the Romero Center, a retreat center in down town Camden and working with various community organizations that provide services to people who are materially poor and learning about the realities of urban material poverty.

A group visiting Cincinnati will be staying at Tau House, run by the Franciscans for the Poor. They will also be working at organizations that partner with Franciscans for the poor, providing services to the materially poor in Cincinnati.
