2015 Sep 8

Kristen Cunningham, a resident of Orwigsburg, Pa., participated as a member of the university's Alvernia Emergency Responders Club in the spring of 2015. Cunningham is a Forensic Science major at Alvernia, and a graduate of Blue Mountain High School.

The purpose of the Alvernia University Emergency Responders Club (AUERC) is to educate students on the emergency response system as well as to have the students interact with emergency responders. The club is designed for anyone who is or has an interest in first responders (fire, police, EMS, etc). A variety of members include those with experience and those without. All majors can be and are a part of the club, which meets a few times a month and holds discussions, brings in guest speakers, offers classes (including CPR/First Aid), and travels to local first responder stations.

ALVERNIA is a fast growing Franciscan university, grounded in the Catholic and liberal arts traditions, that combines diverse academic opportunities with personal attention and an unmatched commitment to community service. Situated on a scenic 121-acre suburban campus in historic Berks County, Pa., the university supports a rigorous and caring learning community that is home to more than 3,000 students.
