Morgan Kurtz Completes 100 Hours of Service in 2013-14

2014 May 27

Morgan Kurtz of Aldan, Pa., earned an Excellence in Service Award from Alvernia's Holleran Center for Community Engagement for completing at least 100 hours of community service in the last year.

Although Alvernia students are only required to complete 40 hours of community service over four years, Kurtz has gone above and beyond by completing more than 100 hours in just one year.

Community service is central to Alvernia's mission as a Franciscan institution. Service provides students the opportunity to use their gifts and talents to help those in need and to support local non"profit organizations. Additionally, community service is an integral part of students' learning experiences, contributing to their intellectual, social, and spiritual growth and development and providing a framework for students' roles as members of local, regional and global communities.

ALVERNIA is a fast growing Franciscan university, grounded in the Catholic and liberal arts traditions, that combines diverse academic opportunities with personal attention and an unmatched commitment to community service. Situated on a scenic 121-acre suburban campus in historic Berks County, Pa., the university supports a rigorous and caring learning community that is home to more than 3,000 students.
