Samantha Wilt Served as Youth Camp Volunteer at Alvernia University

Samantha Wilt, of Lititz, Pa., is serving as a volunteer for a free, 10-day-long youth camp this summer at Alvernia University. Wilt is a Junior Psychology major at Alvernia University.

Alvernia's Holleran Center for Community Engagement hosts two camp programs each summer for students in its South Reading Youth Initiative program. Creativity Camp, held June 10-21, offers 11-14 year-olds a chance to explore activities on and off campus with the help of staff and volunteers like Wilt. Junior Creativity Camp, held July 22 to August 2 follows the same theme, but is tailored to elementary students in the South Reading Youth Initiative program. Wilt is volunteering for the Creativity Camp and Junior Creativity Camp this year.

The South Reading Youth Initiative aims to promote continued education, mentoring and support for healthy choices in children who live or go to school in the South Reading area. Since its inception in the summer of 2006, the Initiative has interacted with more than 150 youth, providing annual summer camps, after-school mentoring programs during the academic year and a variety of cultural activities including museum visits, sporting events and educational field trips all within the Greater Reading and Philadelphia area.
