WHAT: Alvernia University will welcome its largest incoming class in university history of 575 first-year and transfer students along with their families and friends, with a move-in celebration that begins Friday and continues into the first week of classes. This includes check-in/move-in at the new pavilion installed on campus and a Luminary Celebration that will take place in the university's Quad and pair new students with upper-class students, faculty, staff and alumni mentors. Saturday is a community building day of community service. This year, Alvernia's Holleran Center for Community and Global Engagement is partnering with VOiCEup Berks and Olivet Boys & Girls Club of Reading and Berks County. All incoming students will help prepare the spaces for the new school year through projects like deep cleaning, outdoor beautification and creating welcome displays. Students will volunteer at each of Olivet's six locations, assembling welcome kits for club members.
